Asbestos register CommercialWhat are the legislation requirements with the Work Place Health and Safety Regulation -2011 for commercial buildings?

 

Queensland Asbestos Management services have been inundated with this question. As time runs out for commercial buildings to come into line with this act, more and more enquires are flooding in. In brief:

  • Any commercial building built prior to 31st December 2003 needs to be tested for asbestos or any Asbestos containing Material.
  • An Asbestos┬áregister is then required on the premises to notify of these results positive or negative.
  • If Asbestos containing materials (ACM) is present an Asbestos management plan (AMP) is required on the premises to show how the asbestos is being managed.

This is required for all commercial premises built prior to 31st December 2003 and is the responsibility of both the owner of the premises and business working from the premises.

Time is running out and compliance on this is mandatory. Not attending to these requirements can result in fines.
