The Blue Lamingtons initiative is to help raise money for Asbestos Awareness. Malignant mesothelioma (MM) almost uniquely caused by asbestos exposure
was seldom diagnosed until the 1960’s. When compared to other frequently diagnosed cancers such as breast cancer and melanoma, MM has been under-studied. However, outcomes of research conducted into MM provide excellent opportunities for insights into cancer that can be widely applied.
Asbestos Awareness Month is November 2013. During Asbestos Awareness Month, all Australians are invited to hold a Blue Lamington Drive at home, at work or at school to help raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos when renovating. By holding a Blue Lamington Drive you will help raise awareness among colleagues, family, friends, neighbours, schools and communities of the dangers of asbestos when renovating or maintaining homes and raise vital funds to support the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute.
DIY renovations are increasing so before commencing any home maintenance or renovation work, homeowners and renovators, must learn about where they might find asbestos in the home and how best to manage it so they can protect themselves and their families from asbestos fibres.
